Lured west from Ohio by the words of Ed Abbey, Shay landed at the University of Utah for graduate school by way of University of Cincinnati, DAAP. Shay’s approach to design contemplates geography, history and craft, embracing modern methods while drawing on vernacular tradition. He’s worked with his hands building furniture, sculpture and structures from a young age. He enjoys exploring the mountains and desert, the journalistic genius of Hunter S. Thompson and baking sourdough bread.
Caroline was born and raised in Holladay, UT and spent much of her childhood romping around the Wasatch Front and camping in the Utah desert. Her background is in residential Real Estate, but her passion lies in using her creative eye to add a unique perspective to our projects. When she isn’t working the business end of Solstice Design Build or pairing up for a design meeting, she enjoys trail running, reading (some of her favorites are Ram Dass, Paulo Coelho and Terry Tempest Williams) and watercolor painting.
