LOFTS ON BEALL.
Solstice Design Studio was asked to design a set of residences near the downtown core of Bozeman, Montana on a challenging, undeveloped site. This project needed to maximize efficiencies across the board—living space, energy consumption, and mountain views—while integrating at the edge of residential and commercial neighborhoods.
Two groupings of rowhouse-style homes were envisioned which focused primarily on maximizing the use of the irregularly-shaped lot, while turning an unbuildable corner of the site into a shared green space for the community. Each unit is equipped with rooftop solar that is able to offset nearly all of the total energy consumption. Interior layouts were optimized for effortless flow between living spaces. North-facing balconies provide Bridger Mountain views above private green spaces at each unit entrance.
To compliment the visual balance between the urban environment and scenic landscapes, the Solstice team paired a deep red brick with neutral-colored cladding and dark metalwork. These exterior materials help to separate each home without creating visual interruptions. The outcome is a townhome living experience that carefully uses its space, layout, and resources without sacrificing an ounce of curb appeal.
