HOCKING HILLS MODULAR CABIN.
Solstice was brought on to design the next iteration of a reproducible, small dwelling unit located in the rural hills of Southeast Ohio in a region with challenging building conditions.
Getting labor and materials to project sites can be a major challenge due to the remote, hilly and densely forested nature of the region. In response to these constraints most of the structure is factory-built in two separate modules.
Our team worked with the dimensional constraints of a constructed module that can be shipped to the site on a flatbed trailer. Certain elements were selected to be built on-site including the foundations, roof structure and covered decks.
A driving design goal was to depart from the typical look of a modular home with a modern aesthetic that captures some of the comfort and charm of a quiet cabin in the woods. The dense, wild forests of the region are full of diverse flora, fauna and fungi as well as impressive rock formations which attract millions of visitors each year. Incorporating indoor-outdoor living into this project was essential.
